How Does Recovery Coaching Work?
The basics behind sober/recovery coaching
Determining If Recovery Coaching is Right For You
Your journey is unique, and so is your recovery. Our first step together establishes if Recovery Coaching is right for you, and that begins with a confidential exchange.
To properly discern whether Recovery Coaching is the best path for you, we need you to share the following details of your story:
- What is your history of drinking or drug consumption?
- In your story are there events that could be described as traumatic?
- Do you have concerns about your mental health?
- What help or treatment have you tried?
- Where are you at right now?
- What goals would you like to work towards together?
Remember, everything you share stays confidential.
After you’ve shared a bit about your history through email, we’ll arrange a complimentary 15-minute consultation by video or phone. Together, we’ll determine if Recovery Coaching is a good fit for you.
Moving Forward With Recovery Coaching
Once we’ve determined that Recovery Coaching is a good fit based on where you’ve been and what you’d like to achieve, we’ll start moving forward together.
Your journey will begin with scheduled 1:1 online video meetings with your Recovery Coach. We typically ask that our clients purchase a 6-hour block of time as a retainer, which we then use up over time.
Your meetings can be scheduled weekly, twice-weekly, or whatever suits your needs and goals best. These meetings can be spread over months or scheduled more frequently.
During our early sessions, we’ll focus on building a custom plan that addresses your identified goals. This plan includes:
- Assembling a strategy that will prevent slips and recursive patterns.
- Developing a personalized change-plan.
- Creating a new lifestyle by developing self-confidence and self-esteem.
With the early objectives established, we work to make recovery and change worthwhile by creating a lifestyle that complements your goals, whether that is full abstinence or another moderated practice.
How Do We Connect?
Our Recovery Coaching sessions are conducted primarily through scheduled secure online video services. We're also available through phone, email, and text outside of your scheduled sessions.
We currently offer limited in-person Recovery Coaching sessions for clients in Vancouver, Coastal British Columbia, Vancouver Island, and Toronto. We hope to expand our regional coverage in 2024 and include more in-person session.
Online video
We prefer to use secure online video chat as our primary method for conducting Recovery Coaching sessions.
Phone
You can contact your Recovery Coach by phone outside of scheduled sessions, or use phone rather than video chat.
Send an email to your Recovery Coach outside of scheduled sessions to ask a question.
Text
Text messaging is a great way to connect with your Recovery Coach for a quick response.
